Im currently 33 years old.............
Only time I was tiny in my life was when I was born. 4lbs 10 ozs as I am a twin.
Grew up being told my obesity was because of genetics on my dad’s side and that we were a big boned farming family. I was always an athlete and great at sports was motivated by people telling me I couldn’t do something so I would prove them wrong. In 2010 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I beat Cancer and also gained an extra 40 lbs in the process to put me at my high of 312#. That year was the hardest year of my life going through Chemo but it taught me to never give up on anything. Towards the end of my treatment my friends decided they wanted to do a half marathon in AZ to support blood cancer. The event ended up being 3 days after my port was removed and I never actually thought my doctor would let me do it, not to mention I hadn’t done any activity for a year.

Well sure enough she said I could do it as long as I didn’t run. I figured I would just tag along and support my friends who were supporting me in this race. Funny thing is I got there, saw 30,000 people in line to run and said “you just beat cancer, you can do this.” So I put my Survivor shirt on and started walking and repeated this saying in my head “one step at a time” just as I said “one day at time,” while battling cancer. I finished my half marathon in 4 hours, wasn’t fast but life isn’t a race, it’s a journey.
In August of 2013 I realized that I wasn’t going to accept Genetics as an excuse for me being obese and decided to do something about it. It’s like someone who is Dyslexic and just giving into it and never learning how to read etc. I needed to learn how to overcome my challenges and change things so that it worked for me. I had to stop comparing myself to other people and stop telling myself that things are not fair. Life isn’t fair for anyone but that doesn’t mean you just give up. I stopped accepting an excuse and started putting my energy into solving my problem by changing my entire lifestyle. I started working out with Corey 4-5 days a week for 12 weeks and put myself on a 1500 calorie diet. Lost 40# in 12 weeks and seeing my body transform kept me on track to Iose 100# in my first year of working out with Corey or by following his coaching plans and nutrition guidelines. Then this past year we really started to focus on toning and dropping more weight and strengthening my legs. I’m down almost another 30 pounds for a total of 130 from my highest weight in 2013. I can fit into a normal seat on an airplane, not feel my car doors on my thighs, and can walk straight through the gates at Miller Park without turning sideways. The flowers on my swimsuit don’t bloom when I put it on anymore. I feel great and just signed up to do The Madison Ironman in September of 2016.
My tip when people ask me how I did it: I hired an awesome trainer who not only educated and motivated me but also became a friend of mine. I held myself accountable by counting calories in and calories burned. It’s simple, you have to have a surplus at the end of the week to lose weight. 3500 calories in a pound. I didn’t deprive myself of anything I wanted I just made sure I kept track of my calories and if I craved something that week I made sure I saved calories to use towards it. -LeAnn 2015

I am writing this testimonial focusing not on my own weight loss journey – because mine is like SO many others – but on why Corey was able to make a difference when so many other approaches hadn’t. After once again reaching “that” number on the scale, feeling uncomfortable, and being unable to wear the clothes I loved, I went in search of a personal trainer; I knew that if I was going to lose the weight this time, I needed guidance and support.
So many of the websites and resources I found promised results that I knew weren’t realistic or sustainable and offered supplements and magic pills that would “help speed up the weight-loss process” – which I also knew wasn’t true
When I found Corey’s IGNITE site, it automatically felt different. Then when I went to meet him and talk about my goals and my challenges – I knew it would be better this time. A significant component of Corey’s approach is weight-training – something I had stopped doing a long time ago. The workouts not only helped me become stronger, they helped me become more confident. I have chronic back pain issues – and Corey always tailored workouts so that whatever move I was doing, it protected my back and strengthened my core. He also pushed me, gently, to work with weights that I didn’t think I was strong enough to handle – but I did! -Andrea D.
